Both Year 3 classes experienced some outdoor education this week and learnt how to make their own fires. 

All groups were successful in lighting their own fires with the flint before roasting our tasty marshmallows over the campfire.

Thank you for attending our fashion show with a difference on Thursday. The children have been an absolute delight working on the performance; I think the idea that they came up with was pretty unique and showed off their personalities brilliantly. Again, a massive thank you to Mrs G for her support with the tie dying. Don’t forget to be careful when washing those t-shirts as it is highly likely they will still have dye that will run out of them. They have been washed twice already.

This week, we had a staff verses year 6 football match where the year 6 children were humble with their victory. Much to my dismay, they came from behind to secure a 3:1 victory. Thank you to all staff for accommodating the year 6 children’s wish to play the game! The year 6 children then went on to play 2, year 3, 4 and 5 mixed teams- beating them as well.

We said goodbye to the lovely Mrs Hewitt on Friday. We were sad to see her go but wish her all the best for the future.

Points to remember  

Year 6 children can bring in a t-shirt that can be signed by their peers.

Monday 22^nd July- Year 5 transition session 9am-11am.

Monday 22^nd July- Year 6 trip to Adrenaline Quarry (swim wear, towel, packed lunch and drink needed).

Tuesday 23^rd July- 9:15am Year 6 farewell assembly. Year 6 families welcome.

Tuesday 23^rd July- Class 4 farewell party. Children may bring in party food and clothes in if they wish. 

Well how are we already at the end of our last full week of the summer term?

A busy week had by all in Canute this week.

The children were lucky enough to have a second ARENA day on Monday, exploring ways of keeping fit and healthy.

Tuesday saw the children completing some end of term assessments which will feed into our work in the next school year and also working collaboratively to assemble the Polruan Academy entry for the village scarecrow competition, it's looking great!

On Wednesday we completed our history work, thinking about how exploration has changed between the voyages of Christopher Columbus and the achievements of Dame Ellen Macarthur.  The children created their own coat of arms to celebrate the achievements of their favourite explorer.

On Thursday we had our final music session with Mrs Butlin where we worked collaboratively with Tregeagle to sing songs and play music games.

Friday saw a class of pirates with some very unusual names complete pirate workouts, treasure making, gold stealing and route mapping.  We shared the story of 'The Treasure of Pirate Frank' and children in Years 1 and 2 used the Bee-bot to plan, test, review and adapt the best route to get through the different obstacles to the treasure. 

Next week brings the academic year to an end and we will be saying a sad farewell to Miss Taylor, wishing her all the luck in the world in her next adventure.

Monday is our Readymoney beach day with Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
Tuesday will be the last day with early pick up at 1:30.

Have the most amazing summer break and hopefully the sun will appear for a few more days!

End of Year 4!

The children have enjoyed the end of year happenings in Year 4,  including the Y6 Leavers' show, making and eating their fruit kebabs, saving Fred the worm and Brunel's Got Talent, of course!

In amongst all of this, we have been learning about coordinates and translating shapes in maths and finishing our writing in English, with some fabulous end-of-year published writing to show off.

The children ended Geography by learning about our local area and designing their own towns! In RE, we finished by looking at the story of Adam and Eve and how this lesson helps to guide Christians.

On Friday, we draw along with Rob on YouTube to create fantastic self portraits - see the photo below! We also had to have a special Achievers mention to W, as she'd been away on her Achievers week and missed it! So she got a special certificate and to go to the front with Mrs Cooper in assembly!

Whitsand class, you have been fun to teach and I wish you well as you move into Year 5 - you've certainly kept me on my toes and I'm so proud of you all.

Cornish WOW Day

To celebrate the end of their Cornwall topic, 'Did the Cornish do a Proper Job?' Year 2 had a day full of Cornish activities! We sang a special WPA version of 'Cornwall My Home' to start the day, then designed Cornish tea towels and played Cornish games that consisted of Welly Wanging and Tug of War. The Maids and the 'Ansomes had a brilliant day topped of with Cornish Pasties in the afternoon!

This term the children have learnt the Helston Flora dance and the history of the railway in and around Wadebridge. They also learnt how children worked in the tin mines and that conditions were very dangerous. The children did not fancy doing that job! We feel that Year 2 now have a better understanding of the County they live in, and are proud of the culture that is around them.

Gwres da Year 2! (Well done, Year 2)

Class 2 and Class 3 spent the afternoon exploring art through different mediums. The children were tasked to make a nature inspired picture using the materials available to them.We had leaf imprinting, tree sketching and coastal scenes.

As the academic year comes to an end, we have taken time to reflect upon the ways in which we've grown and changed. The children of Tregantle class have amazed us with their memories of the past year. We have all experienced so much, from our memorable trip to Smeaton's Tower, (on such a windy day!) to our super sports day! Year 1 have been looking through books, observing how well their work has progressed throughout the year and sharing the work that they are most proud of. EYFS enjoyed looking through their on-line journals to remember all of the amazing work that they have done. We are are so incredibly proud of each and every one of the children and look forward to watching them grow through the school. We wish you all a very happy holiday! 

The final full week as Y5.

The children of Talland Class have managed to round off their learning for this year by completing their Batik designs. They now understand how a wax resist works and recognise the effects of colour blending. Your art work has turned out fabulous, Talland Class. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Talland Class have used this last week to consolidate all of their learning from Y5 which has included: Writing an information piece of text about the Maya civilisation using their own research for the content: practising converting measurements which also involved converting metric to imperial measurement and vice versa; and evaluating their final virtual computer program.

Y5, you have all been amazing this year and have learned so much. Your dedication, resilience and perseverance has helped you achieve your goals.

This week's jokes:

The seaside resort we visited last summer was so boring that one day the tide went out and never came back.

What did the beach say as the tide came in? Long time no sea.

What did the ocean say to the shore? Nothing it just waved.

Nearly the end... but we're still working hard!

On Tuesday the class did a wonderful performance to their parents and carers.  Year 1 children also came to join in with some of the songs and see what Lantic class had been learning on the drums.  It was a great show and the children have really enjoyed learning different songs and how to play the drums with Mrs Butlin.

During English lessons we have finished our own versions of 'Mr Gumpy's Outing' changing the characters and what they are NOT allowed to do... We have enjoyed coming up with ideas for what they get up to in our new stories.

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity and volume - perhaps over the weekend they could look at things around the home to find the capacity of them?

As we near the end of another wonderful year at Storytellers, we celebrated with a circus-themed day; the children all looked fantastic as they arrived as an array of clowns, acrobats and strong men! The children thoroughly enjoyed the large inflatable Circus, which housed a side, ball pool, obstacle course, and air shots. We had a delicious party lunch with a fabulous fruit elephant created by our clever cook, Sam!

A day full of laughter in the sunshine….what a perfect way to end the year.

Art
In Art this week we have learned about the Japanese printing technique 'Hapa-Zome'. We used India Flint's printing work as our inspiration; finding out about a new artist for all of the children.

Next week is the final week of school for this academic year.  We are in school Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, the children leave at 1.30pm.

Tuesday morning will be our class party and our whole class reward for the Summer Term.
