Learning about our world at WPA

At Wadebridge Primary Academy we are eager to discover more about the world I which we live, learning to have respect for all peoples, living creatures and our environment. Year 2 enjoyed a fascinating day of workshops with Daya, who shared Indian culture and Hindu customs with the children, including cooking, costume and weddings.

A Climate Change Consultant came in to work with Year 5, seeking their ideas as part of a major project with other Bridge Schools. Next week some pupils will take part in an intergenerational drumming workshop with the Memory Café.

On 16th October you are all invited to join us in the school hall for a Harvest celebration, when we will be asking for gifts to be given to the Food Bank- details to follow.

A great start to the new term

We have had a wonderful start to the new school year, and it has been good to meet so many of you. I have been impressed by the children’s friendly and helpful behaviour; our Shining Star certificates were given out today for being a good friend and settling in well.

The Year One children painted landscapes for the story "We're Going on a Bear Hunt".

The Year 6 pupils are being given extra responsibilities around the school. Excellent speeches were given to the whole school by Year 6 children wishing to be voted by the other children in their House to become Team Captains.  We are pleased to congratulate:

Ella and Kristian as Puffin Team Captains
Izzie and Maddie as Swan Team Captains
Isla and Eddie as Chough Team Captains

Friday 20th September Jeans for Genes Day. Children can wear jeans on Friday 20th for a contribution of 50p to make a difference for children affected by genetic disorders.

Welcome from Acting Headteacher

WELCOME TO THE NEW TERM AND NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

I hope you and your families had a wonderful summer, but are now all ready to enjoy the new school year. It is an exciting time for all the children as they move into new classes, and we extend a special welcome to all the children joining us for the first time.

As your new Acting Headteacher, I am also joining you for the first time. I am greatly looking forward to getting to know all of you. After enjoying twenty years as Headteacher of St Cleer Primary School, I was thinking about retirement, but was delighted when Bridge Schools asked me to lead Wadebridge School until a more permanent Headteacher could be found. I am still full of energy and enthusiasm, and am delighted to be able to continue my life’s work with children: leading schools to offer the very best education for every child in our care.

During my visits at the end of last term, I have been impressed by the committed staff and friendly children at Wadebridge, and am determined to do my very best for the school in my time with you. I have a passion for children’s education in the widest possible sense: education of the whole child, both in terms of providing academic excellence and, equally importantly, enabling mental and physical wellbeing. Every child has the right to be able to fulfil their full potential in life.

I hope to meet as many of you as possible. I will always be around the school at the beginning and end of each day to meet you informally, but don’t hesitate to contact the school office if you would like an appointment to meet me. I aim to be as accessible and open as possible. I believe communication with you as parents is key.

Best wishes
